Tranquility Base is a well-maintained 2006 Ocean Alexander 58 that has been kept inside a custom-built boat house, keeping it free from constant exposure to the elements. This owner-operator motoryacht is listed with Alexander Marine USA for $1.229 million.

“The 58 pilothouse was designed by the iconic Ed Monk Jr., who has been producing eye-pleasing, classic, seakindly pilothouse yachts for Ocean Alexander for almost three decades. Indeed, there are now more than 1,000 Ocean Alexanders cruising around the world; the current lineup goes from 42 to 98 feet. The new 58 pilothouse is a traditional three-stateroom, two-head design with lots of teak and luxury appointments that appeal to buyers who are used to the best, whether in their homes or their yachts, and who also, as Johnny says, want the independence of running the boat themselves. (With three staterooms, of course, there’s room for a crew, but the boat is really designed for the owner-operators of the world),” Yachting previously reported.

Powered by twin 700 hp Caterpillar C-12 diesel engines, Tranquility Base can hit 20 knots. But this yacht is not about speed, it’s about cruising in comfort. Dial it back to around 13 knots for a long-range cruise speed.

The 58’s salon has high-gloss Sakura wood with teak and Burl wood trim. Stepping inside the salon via a stainless-steel framed glass door from the cockpit, the custom exotic woodwork glows in the natural light, creating a warm, relaxing sensation. Recline in a leather loveseat to port or kick back on the sofa to starboard.

The galley is forward and to starboard, just abaft the helm on centerline. The U-shaped galley has plenty of counter space for food prep, and it’s equipped with an electric cooktop, oven and microwave. Stow your cold goods in the oversized refrigerator/freezer and other galley accessories in an array of cabinets. Forward and to port is a dinette, allowing guests to have their meals with a view while keeping the skipper company.

The 2003 Ocean Alexander 48 Altus accommodates six guests in three staterooms, is owner-operator friendly and is on the market for $349,000.

“The 48 seemed gifted with an easily driven hull. Given throttle, she rose to a plane with little fuss and reached a maximum speed of 25.4 knots at 3,000 rpm. At 2,700 rpm I recorded a speed of 20.9 knots-a solid cruising speed with a half load of fuel and an owner’s gear on board. I recorded low sound levels and the reading of 80 dB(A) in the salon at 2,700 rpm is worthy of note,” as previously reported in Yachting.

Enter the helm deck and take a seat to port on the L-shaped settee. The settee has stowage under the seats and a hi-low table for dining. A reverse- cycle heat and A/C unit system keeps the helm deck cool in the summer and warm during the cold season. A heavy-gauge polycarbonate enclosure closes off the back of the bridge deck from the cockpit. A companion bench seat and a locker for stowage is forward of the L-shaped settee. A few additional guests can be seated on a settee to starboard, which is abaft the helm. Two skylight hatches over the helm, along with side windows and a center windshield, can be opened for salty breezes.

“Carver has always built seaworthy hulls for its cruisers and motoryachts. The C52 Coupe is no exception. Its modified V-hull with plumb bow is designed for big seas, while the full chine and rail on the running surface provide a dry ride.”

Stepping up from the swim platform, guests will notice the space in the 160-square-foot cockpit. Bench seating and a table provide a great spot to enjoy alfresco dining. The foredeck has a unique, split lounge pad with reclined seating and built-in cup holders.

The split-level, main-deck interior has a galley-aft layout, making entertaining and serving guests in the salon and the cockpit seamless. The builder did a good job maintaining panoramic views despite using hanging cabinets to port. The galley is equipped with a number of meal-prep appliances, including, a two-burner electric cooktop, a refrigerator and freezer and a microwave and convection oven.

Forward and up a step, seating flanks the salon with a U-shaped dinette to port and a bench seat to starboard. There is a helm station forward. If owners want to dial the sunlight up to a 10, just retract the sunroof.

After a long day on the water comes to an end, three staterooms belowdecks provide accommodations for six.  The master stateroom is amidships with a queen berth and an en suite head. The forepeak VIP stateroom has a centerline queen berth and an en suite head. It’s worth noting the VIP head doubles as the day head. The starboard guest cabin has side-by-side single berths and companionway access to the day head.

Twin 600 hp Cummins WSC 8.3L diesels power this midsize express cruiser to a 31-knot top hop. Dialing the throttles back to a 27-knot cruise speed, gives the C52 Coupe a 268-nautical-mile range.

Champagne Lu Lu is a 2004 Ocean Alexander 58 that has been well maintained and upgraded over the years by its owners and is on the market at $995,000.

Alexander Marine stated that “when the legendary designs of Ed Monk and the exacting standards of Ocean Alexander come together, it’s time to raise your expectations. The 58 will change how you see any other motor yacht in its class. Some of the finest naval architects in the world have specified a classic, raised pilothouse design, but Ocean Alexander executes it with a level of safety and seaworthiness few can match. For all her renowned stability, the 58 is still astonishingly agile and filled with uncommon luxury, taking you beyond a mere destination to a state of mind”.

Ocean Alexander 58
The yacht’s split-level interior design helps separate the salon space from the helm station forward. Note the rich wood finishes. Courtesy Alexander Marine

“This yacht is meant for long-legged cruising; you could live comfortably on her for a long time, and feel safe and secure taking her just about anywhere. And you’d feel justifiably proud all the way. The craftsmanship and attention to detail make the boat. The joinerwork in the book-matched Burmese teak is exceptional,” Yachting previously reported.

Powered by twin 700 hp Caterpillar C-12 diesel engines, Champagne Lu Lu can quickly spool up to 20 knots. But it’s not all about speed on a 2004 Ocean Alexander 58. Dial it back to around 13 knots and enjoy the luxury, comfortable ride and the views.

I have to start with my favorite spot on this yacht, the salon. Stepping inside through a stainless-steel- framed glass door from the cockpit, the first thing you notice is the custom exotic woodwork that glows in the light. It’s warm, providing an immediate feeling of relaxation. Recline in one of the leather loveseats to port or kick back on the sofa to starboard. Large windows let natural light flow inside while providing ocean views.

The galley is forward of the salon and to starboard, just abaft the helm. Across is a set of steps that lead to the flybridge and a U-shaped dinette. The U-shaped galley has plenty of counter space for food prep, and owners can prepare just about any type of gourmet meal using the cooktop, oven or microwave. Stow your cold goods in the oversized refrigerator/freezer and other galley accessories in the cabinets.

Primary access to the flybridge is via a set of steps in the cockpit. Guests can relax in a U-shaped settee that is shaded from the sun under the hardtop or join the captain in one of two Stidd helm chairs.

Guests can enjoy the open-air environment and sweeping views from the flybridge underway or choose to lounge around while grilling in the cockpit. Dive in and take a dip off the swim platform, or unload and take the tender out for a spin. T

Some of electronics on board Champagne Lu Lu include:

  • 2 x Big Bay 17-inch daylight LCD monitors
  • Furuno Navnet radar/plotter/depth
  • Furuno 6 kW radar
  • Furuno WAAS GPS
  • Furuno 1 kW black-box sounder

  • Notable upgrades include:

After a long day on the water, owners and guests can turn in for the night in one of three staterooms.

The exotic-wood theme extends into the master stateroom. Wood pillars, large mirrors and a queen-sized berth bring a cozy, homelike feeling. Owners have an en suite head and more than enough stowage space with under-berth drawers, chest drawers and full-length hanging lockers.

Guests will also feel spoiled in the spacious forepeak VIP with a queen-sized berth, entertainment center and plenty of stowage with a full-length hanging locker, and more. The third guest stateroom has two side-by-side twin berths with full-length hanging lockers. A head with a full-size shower is located just across from the third guest stateroom.

Looking for an owner-operator-size pilothouse motoryacht to cruise the West Coast from Alaska to Mexico? Pastabilities, a 2007 Ocean Alexander 64’ Pilothouse, has a three-stateroom, two-head layout with a spacious salon and fully equipped galley. This yacht has an asking price of $1.195 million.

The hull of Pastabilities was built with hand-laid, gelcoated fiberglass and an AL 600 core in the hull sides and superstructure. The flybridge is covered with a fiberglass hardtop and the pilothouse is enclosed with polycarbonate panels. The aft deck of the flybridge, which accommodates a tender (not included in sale), along with an extendable awning provides shade to the cockpit area below. The cockpit has a teak sole. Guests can easily board Pastabilities from port and starboard side boarding gates, or via the swim platform that leads up to the cockpit. A non-slip fiberglass staircase leads guests from the cockpit to the flybridge.

The yacht’s cockpit is spacious and has four cushioned wood chairs with a table where guests can enjoy an alfresco meal while using the electric barbecue. Windows flanking the galley, along with three large windscreens, allow natural light to illuminate the helm and galley space. The galley is U-shaped with a Franke double sink, 12″ Trash compactor, 18″ Miele dishwasher and plenty of granite countertop space for meal preparation. Have breakfast with your family in the galley dinette located to port across from the lower helm, and enjoy lunch on the flybridge.
