There’s something about a beautifully executed, modern-classic express cruiser that makes the heart swoon.

Maybe it’s the way the house shape reminds us of the hardiest lobster boats, with all the go-to-sea romance that lifestyle embodies along the coast of Maine. Or maybe it’s the sweep in the sheerline with the proud bow that practically begs to let loose from the dock and head out for a long weekend of exploration off the coast. Hull-paint colors on modern classics are downright soothing. It’s as if a yacht designer put pen to paper and created a vision for inducing a sense of calm.

But then there’s also the good kind of heart pounding that a true modern classic also inspires. Take all of that sensuous style, then add a pair or a trio of 600 hp Mercury V-12 outboards along with a proven performance hull shape, and the boat has everything we need to feel the thrill of tearing across the open water at speeds not seen in this segment. It’s total control and absolute exhilaration, for as little or as long a time as we desire.

These are just some of the qualities embodied in the all-new ECLIPSE 505 and ECLIPSE 605, now for sale through HMY Yachts. The first ECLIPSE 505 is expected to arrive in the United States this fall, with its premiere planned for the 2024 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in Florida. The first ECLIPSE 605 is expected to premiere at the 2025 Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show.

Both the ECLIPSE 505 and the ECLIPSE 605 are built on the patented Stepped Vee Ventilated Tunnel hull by Sarasota, Florida-based designer Michael Peters. He’s a designer who cites legendary V-hull designer C. Raymond Hunt among his major influences, and who has helped to shape some of the best-performing powerboats of the past few decades.

In a nutshell, Peters’ SVVT hull design reduces the wetted surface, meaning the boat has less drag. In turn, this allows for quicker acceleration, faster speeds, better fuel economy and more. Both the ECLIPSE 505 and 605 can be ordered with the upgraded Shadow Performance Package, which consists of not just exclusive interior appointments, but also more features and an additional Mercury 600 hp engine. This additional power mated to the SVVT hull design will enable faster speeds with reliable handling and allow these express cruisers to stand out in their class.

The ECLIPSE 505 and 605 are built in South Africa by Two Oceans Marine Manufacturing, the same yard that turns out the Two Oceans Power Catamarans in the HMY Yachts stable of offerings. Dave Jirikovic, brand manager of both lines for HMY Yachts, says the plan is to build about 20 of the ECLIPSE 505 and 15 ECLIPSE 605 boats each year, focusing on high-end finishes and components inside and out—as well as on the type of upscale, concierge-level service that owners in this quality range expect.

“The ECLIPSE 505 and 605 are built for the most discerning yachtsmen,” Jirikovic says. “In July of 2022, HMY bought the former Whiticar Boatworks fully functional yard—now called HMY Willoughby Creek—in Stuart, Florida, to be the dedicated service and delivery center for the ECLIPSE owner. Renovations commenced immediately in preparation for the future arrival of ECLIPSE 505s and 605s. Our goal is to create a totally different experience for the customer—from on-site factory-certified Mercury 600 V-12 technicians, to delivery of your new ECLIPSE being out of the elements and under brand-new covered dockage. We are going the extra mile to ensure ECLIPSE customers receive a next-level experience.”

The ECLIPSE 505 is a two-stateroom, two-head design, while the ECLIPSE 605 has a three-stateroom, three-head layout. The boats are ideal for long weekends or weeklong getaways with family and friends. They have American components for ease of service anywhere, and they’re built with features that allow in fresh air and natural light to enhance the cruising experience, such as a retractable moonroof and an opening portside balcony in the cockpit.

Other things to look for in the ECLIPSE models, Jirikovic says, are innovative design elements that make boating easier—the kinds of touches that experienced yachtsmen appreciate. As just one example, the aft door leading from the main-deck salon into the cockpit can slide inboard or outboard on centerline to open, instead of requiring a battle of wills on days when there’s wind to contend with in a harbor.

“We have eliminated pinch points like those created by bi-fold doors,” he says. “Just open the center of the door on a bad day to go in and out of the boat without issue.”

Another advancement is the boarding door to starboard, which, unlike on other boats, doesn’t hinge in or out at all. It’s designed to make life easier for boaters whose hands are full and, well, to look darn cool at any dock as it disappears completely out of view and out of the way.

“It retracts into the cockpit sole,” Jirikovic says. “It’s unlike anything anyone has seen on the docks.”

Interiors on the ECLIPSE 505 and 605 are by Mark Tucker’s renowned team at Design Unlimited in the United Kingdom. He has more than 30 years of experience in the business, with the company’s work including not just higher-end production brands like the ECLIPSE, but also custom superyachts for top yards.

All of that experience will combine with the sales and service power of HMY Yachts, which is the exclusive worldwide dealer for all ECLIPSE models. The partnership means boaters will be able to get aboard these boats at major boat shows, touch and feel the fabrics and components to see the high quality of each model’s construction, and schedule sea trials with experienced captains and brokers who can answer any questions about handling, options and more.

“The worldwide debut will be powered by the HMY team, which has been delivering results since 1979,” says Steve Moynihan, founder and owner of HMY Yachts. “Our commitment to service our customers is unrivaled in the industry.”

Several charter yachts are advertising availability for Thanksgiving bookings at the end of November.

HMY Yachts says the 98-foot Princess No Curfew is available for the holiday in the Bahamas. It’s a 2012 build that most recently was refitted in 2021. Accommodations are for eight guests in four staterooms—two of them with king-size berths, which makes this yacht an option for couples who want to charter together and split the weekly rate.

According to HMY, charter guests aboard No Curfew can be out and about, having some serious fun while the crew and chef are preparing Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings. The yacht charters with a 27-foot Boston Whaler center console tender, a pair of Seadoo Spark three-seaters, a couple of Seabobs for underwater exploration, paddleboards, snorkeling gear and a floating dock to expand the available real estate for watersports.

Churchill Yacht Partners, meanwhile, is advertising no fewer than six yachts that still have Thanksgiving availability from its fleet.

The yacht is scheduled to make its way to Nassau, Bahamas, this month, following a summer charter season in the Mediterranean.

Also available for Thanksgiving in the Churchill fleet is the 142-foot Palmer Johnson Lady J. It’s currently in the shipyard in Florida, and is being advertised for the Bahamas on Thanksgiving. For the winter season, this yacht is expected to be in the Caribbean, taking 10 to 12 guests in five staterooms.

Churchill’s team also says the 142-foot Richmond Far From It is available for Thanksgiving. It will be in the Bahamas, following a summer of cruising up in New England. Accommodations aboard Far From It are for 10 guests in five staterooms. The yacht is a 2008 build that most recently was refitted in 2016.

Westport Dona Lola

Yet another “Turkey Day” option is the 130-foot Westport Dona Lola, which is available for Thanksgiving in the Caribbean. This yacht accommodates 10 guests in five staterooms, and it charters with seven crew. As of this writing, Dona Lola is in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for a shipyard period to make sure everything is in top shape ahead of the winter charter season.

Azimut Intervention

Intervention is yet another yacht with Thanksgiving availability. It’s a 100-foot Azimut that will be based in Florida and the Bahamas, with accommodations for eight to 10 guests in four staterooms. This yacht charters with five crew.

Isn’t there one more yacht in the Churchill fleet that’s open for Thanksgiving? Yes. The 95-foot Azimut Sorridente is available for a Thanksgiving charter. This yacht bases year-round in the Bahamas, with accommodations for eight guests in four staterooms. It charters with four crew.

The Sunreef 60 Power Catamaran has a superyacht-size beam of 35 feet, which translates to home-size living spaces on a 60-footer. HMY Yacht Sales currently has Nero, a 2022 Sunreef 60, listed with a $4.695 million price tag.

Nero is the most highly customized Sunreef 60 Power Catamaran that has launched to date,” HMY says. “No expense was spared by her owners in the development of her machinery spaces, galley, stateroom layouts and appointments, and absolute top of the line electronic equipment and tender choices.”

The upgraded, 1,000 kg hydraulic swim platform capable of stowing the Williams Dieseljet 445 tender with Yanmar 110 hp engines further reinforces this sentiment.

Twin 705 hp Cummins QSM 11 diesels give Nero a 15.5-knot top speed. On the flybridge, the helm station sits forward on the centerline with a three-person bench and a raked and tinted windshield which helps to greatly reduce glare. A U-shaped dinette, capable of seating eight with two chairs pulled up, sits abaft the helm station. A sunroof above the dinette helps guests keep an eye on the blue skies above while enjoying elevated alfresco dining.

Nero’s foredeck wastes no space with a lounge area built in between the yacht’s superstructure and the walkaround teak deck. The cockpit has alfresco dining for eight with the transom bench seat and chairs pulled up to the fixed table.

The main deck’s interior has a sofa and fixed table to port and the galley to starboard. The galley feature’s an oversized island in the center of the salon and a range of appliances, including:

  • Miele dishwasher
  • Bosch speed oven with microwave, convection and conventional oven capabilities

The 2002 Sunseeker 64 Manhattan Lady Sadie has three staterooms, a crew quarters, and yet is easily handled by an experienced owner-operator. Lady Sadie is on the market for $500,000.

Lady Sadie is powered by twin 800 hp MAN D2848 diesel engines, which reportedly produce a top speed of 30 knots. Fuel economy and range will increase when dialed back to a 25-knot cruise speed.

Primary access to the flybridge is via a set of stairs in the cockpit, but there is a second set of stairs at the main-deck helm. Lady Sadie’s flybridge is open, but a new Bimini top gives owners and guests the choice of sun or shade. Guests can relax on a 270-degree settee with table on the aft deck or join the captain on a bench-style lounge  to port across from the helm. Grab a beverage from the wet bar and enjoy the ocean breeze while preparing a few burgers on the grill. Some of the navigation gear includes the following:

  • New black dash with flush-mount electronics
  • New electronics
  • Dual Garmin 8616 displays at lower helm
  • Gamin 8616 and 943 displays on flybridge
  • Garmin autopilot
  • Garmin xHD radar
  • Garmin GMS10 network expander
  • Garmin GXM54 antenna
  • Garmin AIS800 AIS module
  • Fusion RA770 head unit
  • Bow thruster with Dockmate Control Engine interface
  • Fusion remote
  • Bow thruster remote

Lady Sadie’s cockpit has a synthetic teak sole and guests can relax on an aft bench-style seat with table and chairs, catch some rays on the swim platform or walk up to the foredeck lounge to get away from the crowd. The cockpit ice maker is a plus, but just through the sliding glass doors is the galley aft and the salon. Open the sliding glass door to create an open-air environment from the cockpit to the helm forward.

Lady Sadie’s salon has nearly 360 degrees of glass that allow natural light to flood the interior and create panoramic views from all points. Relax on the leather sofa to port while catching a game on the fold-down TV. Forward and up a few steps from the salon is the C-shaped dinette to starboard with adjacent sofa and  the helm station. The galley aft is to starboard, which is my favorite type of galley setup. Owners are able to prepare meals and easily entertain guests in the salon, dinette, cockpit and flybridge. Galley amenities include the following:

  • Custom countertops
  • Four-burner cooktop
  • Custom gold sinks and faucet
  • High-gloss wood finishes
  • Fridge/freezer
  • Ice maker
  • Microwave

After a long day on the water, owners and guests can retire to one of three staterooms. The master stateroom is full-beam with an en suite head and a king-sized berth. Forward is the VIP stateroom with V-berth and en suite head. The third guest stateroom is abaft the VIP and to port with three twin-sized over/under berths with a shared head. Crew quarters are  available and could also be used for extra stowage, or possibly the perfect berth for the teenage boys.

HMY Yacht Sales stated, “The Manhattan 64 is one of the most popular Sunseeker yachts ever produced. With her triple salon windows and a sculpted form, the 64 is a study in modern yacht design when she was introduced in 2001. Raising Dough, 2004 Burger 106 Raised Pilothouse, is on the market at $3.69 million with HMY Yacht Sales.

HMY Yacht Sales stated that “Raising Dough underwent a major refit in 2019 by a professional interior design firm out of Palm Beach, Florida. This 106′ modern-classic coastal styled Motor Yacht with a raised pilothouse has some notable standout features that include the custom dining table on the open aft deck with Murray folding varnished teak chairs. These custom Murray chairs can also be found throughout the vessel. She has an English Brown Oak interior (entirely derived from one tree), a country kitchen with crafted woodwork and bronze accents, a fly-bridge bar with seating and a redesigned forward V-berth that can be used as a fourth guest stateroom. To top it off, enjoy your view from the bow lounge seating! The Raising Dough is an elegant, show stopping work of art”.

The basic design of the yacht, in David Ross’s words (Burger’s president), is “tried and true,” aimed squarely at the middle of the bell curve of yacht buyers interested in this size range. “Something more exotic might be fun for the builder, but that’s not what most yachtsmen want for family cruising and charter, Burger’s prime market,” Yachting previously reported.

Raising Dough has a stout 366,000-pound, bluewater-ready displacement, and this yacht was built for a cozy comfortable cruise. Powered with twin 1,550 hp Caterpillar C30 diesel engines, this Burger 106’ will reportedly spool up to 21 knots at 2,300 rpm. Dial it back to a 9-knot cruise speed (1,000 rpm) and range to just over 4,000 nautical miles. Speed, rpm and range data is listed below:

  • 2,300 rpm / 21 knots / range: 924 nm
  • 2,100 rpm / 17.4 knots / range: 1,016 nm
  • 1,800 rpm /  14.8 knots / range: 1,355 nm
  • 1,400 rpm / 12.6 knots / range: 2,511 nm
  • 1,200 rpm / 10.9- knots / range: 3,211 nm
  • 1,000 rpms/ 9 knots / range: 4,065 nm

Owners have complete privacy with their his-and-hers en suite head, which can be accessed from either side of the berth.

Opposite the foyer from the master stateroom, are two guest staterooms. The VIP stateroom to port has a queen-size berth and an en suite head, while the starboard VIP stateroom has a twin-size berth  and en suite head. The foyer is rich with details such as a mirrored sculpture niche all atop a patterned Wengé sole.
