Alia Yachts in Turkey is planning for the debut of its all-aluminum, fully custom, 148-foot yacht SAN at the Monaco Yacht Show at the end of September.

SAN is designed by Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design, with naval architecture by Lateral Naval Architects. Power is courtesy of Volvo Penta and a quad setup of IPS drives.

According to the Alia shipyard, SAN has a fully open main deck from the stern to the bow, framed by sole-to-ceiling glass windows with sliding doors forward and aft.

“This design offers an unparalleled sense of openness and a seamless connection to the sea,” the yard stated in a press release. “SAN integrates indoor and outdoor spaces harmoniously, allowing for a straight walk from aft to forward and providing panoramic views through the expansive glass around the salon.”

Exterior deck furniture is designed to be multifunctional, so owners and guests can use it for any variations they want during dining, cocktails or sunbathing. Additional space can be found for relaxing far aft by lowering the bulwarks to expand the sunbathing area.

Belowdecks are four guest staterooms along with the owner’s stateroom.

SAN is a striking and innovative superyacht that highlights our strengths as a truly custom builder,” Gökhan Çelik, president of Alia Yachts, stated in the press release. “It’s projects like SAN that attract the best clients from all over the world, reinforcing our reputation as a leading custom yacht builder.”

Where is SAN right now? According to the shipyard, the yacht has completed sea trials and been delivered to its owners. Look for SAN to appear at the Monaco Yacht Show at the end of September.

Heesen Launches 220-Foot ‘Sparta’ https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/yachts/heesen-launches-220-foot-sparta/ Mon, 17 Jul 2023 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/?p=60567 Sparta is Heesen’s largest steel motoryacht to date, based on the Project Avanti concept with Winch Design.

Heesen Yachts in the Netherlands has launched the 220-foot Sparta. It is the yard’s largest-ever steel motoryacht, having grown out of the Project Avanti concept that Heesen presented with Winch Design at the Monaco Yacht Show in 2018.

Sparta is in final commissioning, before heading to the North Sea for sea trials ahead of delivery to the owners.

According to Heesen, “The design has remained true to the original concept, with only minor adjustments made to the swimming pool. Winch Design expertly incorporated Heesen’s DNA to create a unique, low-profile, sporty and elegant yacht that looks simply stunning on the water.”

Sparta’s exterior is snow white with metallic Venetian red and metallic anthracite gray accents. The yacht has a reverse bow and sweep of thermo-bonded tinted glass from bow to stern.

Onboard features include a full-beam salon connected to an open-air beach terrace with a 21-foot infinity pool. Winch Design penned the custom outdoor furniture, which was built by Siebensee and Leerdam. A custom limo tender that Heesen calls “a mini version of the mothership” stows with the water toys behind gullwing doors in a forward garage.

Interior volume is 1,200 gross tons. There are two owner’s suites on a private deck and four guest staterooms on the main deck. A movable partition separates the forward guest staterooms, which can become a full-beam VIP or a playroom for younger family members.

A glass elevator serves all three decks. The lower deck has a Japanese-inspired wellness area with an elliptical whirlpool, steam room, sauna, gym and beauty area.

Interior design themes on every deck: Each of Sparta’s three decks has a different theme. The lower deck is water (with dining chairs upholstered in palm leaf), the main deck is earth (with a coffee table made from oak trunk), and the upper deck is air and space (with constellation wall artwork).

Heesen Yachts in the Netherlands has sold Project Akira, the first hull in the yard’s series of 187-foot, all-aluminum fast yachts.

The sale was done with Wes Sanford of Northrop & Johnson and James Corts of MarineMax introducing the client.

Project Akira will have an enclosed volume of approximately 780 gross tons and a lightweight Fast Displacement Hull Form. The design was first presented at the 2019 Monaco Yacht Show, and construction began on spec in February 2022. Delivery is expected in time for the summer 2024 season.

Power will be a pair of IMO Tier III-compliant MTU 16V 4000 M65L engines with a reported maximum speed of 22 knots.

Frank Laupman of Omega Architects penned the profile. Harrison Eidsgaard collaborated on the layout and décor. Accommodations are for 12 guests in six staterooms, including an owner’s stateroom on the main deck and a VIP stateroom on the bridge deck.

Heesen’s employees just keep going: When the keel was laid for Project Akira, four of Heesen employees celebrating their 25th work anniversaries carried out the first welds. Overall, 17 of the shipyard’s original 40 employees still work at the yard.

At the Monaco Yacht Show, U-Boat Worx unveiled its Nautilus design, a 123-foot, 1,250-ton vessel that the company says can function as a yacht or a submersible that uses diesel-electric power down to about 650 feet below sea level.

Cruising speed is projected to be 9 knots for the Nautilus, with an underwater speed of 4 knots.

Guest spaces include a bar, pool, lounge, dining room, five guest staterooms, quarters for six crew and a galley. The entire sundeck gets retracted before the vessel goes into submersible mode. The design also includes 10 windows, each more than 13 feet wide, for views of the underwater world.

A pressure-resistant tender, the Aronnax, can be used to take as many as five divers to a scuba location away from the mothership.

According to U-Boat Worx, this “superyacht submarine” will be able to stay underwater for as long as four days. At cruise speed, it can stay underwater for six hours.

What’s the asking price to build the first Nautilus? It’s about $24.5 million. U-Boat Worx says it can deliver the Nautilus within 30 months of a contract being signed.

Gulf Craft unveiled plans for a Majesty 160, the yard’s second-largest build after the Majesty 175, at the Monaco Yacht Show.

“The Majesty 160 is an evolution of our Majesty 155 and follows the new design precedent of our Majesty lineup, which was introduced earlier this year with the Majesty 111 at Dubai International Boat Show,” Gulf Craft Chairman Mohammed Hussein Al Shaali stated in a press release.

The Majesty 160 is intended for American and European buyers. Design is by Cristiano Gatto in Italy, with naval architecture by Van Oossanen in the Netherlands. Gross tonnage is expected to stay under 500.

Gulf Craft says the Majesty 160’s most notable space is the full-beam master stateroom, forward on the main deck with a private lounge and retractable balcony.

Overall, there are seven staterooms aboard for as many as 12 guests. Quarters are also on board for nine crew.

Additional guest features include an infinity pool on the sundeck, a beach club at water level that can be used as a lounge, bar or gym, and a swim platform with fold-down balconies on both sides.

Let’s talk power: The Majesty 160 will be built with twin 2,000-horsepower MTU 16V 2000 M87s. Gulf Craft is projecting a top speed of 19.5 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots, with a range of 4,300 nautical miles at 10.8 knots.

Fall boat-show season is always a time to be excited about new launches and yacht designs, but this year the Monaco Yacht Show is adding another level with an Adventure Area. This new part of the show will feature all kinds of things that yachtsmen need for expedition-style cruising, including sporty tenders, off-road vehicles, helicopters and high-tech gadgets.

Sign us up for all of that and more, please. We’re especially keen to have a look this season at the new yachts, all of which caught our eye for different reasons.

Pardo GT52: First Model in a New Range

The Pardo GT52 is the first model in a new range that builder Pardo Yachts in Italy says falls between its Walkaround and Endurance ranges. The GT52 is designed for owners who want more volume and layout flexibility in the guest areas, but without sacrificing performance. Owners can choose either galley-up or galley-down layouts, with the engines placed closer to the stern, allowing more space for the interior cabin options. That extra space, depending on which galley setup is chosen, can be used for an additional stateroom, a TV lounge, or a larger dinette and a more extensively equipped galley. Standard power is a pair of 650 hp Volvo Penta IPS engines, with 700 hp and 800 hp as options.

Absolute Navetta 75: The New Flagship

The Absolute Navetta 75 is the new flagship of the Italian builder’s Navetta line, which starts at a Navetta 48 and now includes seven models overall. The Navetta 75 has a full-beam owner’s stateroom at the bow, on a level raised to offer more privacy and wider views of the surroundings. The flybridge “terrace,” as Absolute calls it, has no fixed furnishings, so owners can set up the space however they desire. The cockpit below, on the main level, is similarly arranged for maximum flexibility. Crew quarters are aft, giving the crew and guests alike their privacy, and there are stairs to the flybridge from the bow as well as the stern, so the crew can move around as needed without disturbing anyone else on board.

Fairline Phantom 65: The Builder’s First Sport Bridge

The Fairline Phantom 65 is the British builder’s first sport-bridge model, and it has an exterior inspired by the design of the Fairline Targa 65. There are two engine options: twin 1,150 hp Caterpillar C18s for a reported top speed of 31 knots, or twin 1,622 hp V-12 Caterpillar C32s that Fairline says will juice that speed in excess of 35 knots. Inside, owners can choose a three- or four-stateroom layout, including an owner’s stateroom with a king-size berth. The galley is aft on the main deck, with a bar that extends to the cockpit, helping to create an indoor-outdoor space. Draft on the Phantom 65 is 5 feet, 2 inches, making the boat ready to explore the Bahamas or any similarly shallow cruising grounds.

Sirena 78: Ready for Relaxation

Onboard entertainment was top of mind with designers at Turkey-based Sirena Yachts as they developed the Sirena 78. The yacht falls between the Sirena 68 and Sirena 88 in the builder’s lineup, and is different from similar-size builds in that it has no main-deck helm station. Instead, that space is opened up for guest relaxation, with what Sirena calls a “massive galley” for food prep, full-size appliances and parties. Up top, owners can choose an open, semi-enclosed or fully enclosed flybridge, and the foredeck is intended to be used as an alfresco lounge with tables, settees and a sun pad. Down below, accommodations include a full-beam master stateroom amidships and a VIP stateroom in the bow. Both are ensuite.

The Italian builder CRN has delivered Rio, a custom 203-foot motoryacht with a steel hull and aluminum superstructure.

Rio is headed to the Mediterranean for her first summer on the water.

The design is by CRN in collaboration with Omega Architects on the exterior concept and with Pulina Exclusive Interiors for interior styling. TWW Yachts represented the buyer and provided project management.

Rio is a four-deck yacht that accommodates 12 guests in six staterooms. There are two full-beam VIPs—one forward on the main deck, the other belowdecks—with the upper deck reserved for the owner’s use. That upper deck, along with the main deck, has full-height windows for expansive views.

The yacht will be available for charter with TWW Yachts starting this summer in the Mediterranean and later this year in the Caribbean.

CRN intends to display Rio for the public at the Monaco Yacht Show in September.

What else is in build at CRN? Four fully custom yachts, ranging in length overall from 170 to 236 feet.

Monaco Yacht Show
A view from above MC-Clic

The organizers of the Monaco Yacht Show have presently confirmed that 300 exhibitors will be participating. They have also announced that nearly 60 superyachts will be exhibited, including 40 brand-new launches by some of the most famous shipyards – not to mention regulars here at the MYS – including: Benetti, Feadship, Lürssen, Oceanco, etc. (full list at the end of the press release).

As announced last February, the show will be focusing on offering superyacht’s end clientele a positively upmarket visiting experience.

The new Dockside Area, a part of the exhibition dedicated to companies directly linked with the construction or management of superyachts and tenders, will therefore be exclusively open to end customers (in possession of a “Discover”, “Advise” and “Sapphire Experience” badges) on Wednesday 22 September, before being opened up to all visitors starting Thursday.

The Dockside Area fits in perfectly with the way Monaco’s Port Hercule is divided up for the show: for several years now, each area of the exhibition has featured its own theme in order to better meet the visitors’ expectations.

A More Varied Exhibition

This year, visitors will be treated to two new exhibitions: The first is dedicated to sailing boats, held on Quai l’Hirondelle where several crafts will be moored opposite the stands representing their respective shipyards, designers and specialist equipment manufacturers.

In addition to the show’s historic Designer Gallery, the MYS will feature a Yacht Design & Innovation Hub: a new space for the presentation of yacht design projects where visitors can also interact with designers.

These two areas perfectly compliment the luxury tender and water toys exhibitions at Tender & Toys (Quai Antoine Ier), in addition to luxury cars at the Car Deck (Quai Antoine Ier), luxury products (Parvis Piscine tent), nautical equipment manufacturers and the latest tech releases (Darse Sud and Quai Albert Ier).

Sanitary Measures at the MYS

Rest assured: the 2021 Monaco Yacht Show will be “Covid-safe”! An anti-Covid sanitary protocol will be respected throughout the entire show, from the first day of preparations to the dismantling of the last stand and, of course, during the 4 days of the show.

General Manager of the exhibition Gaëlle Tallarida stated: “We are following the evolution of the pandemic very closely, as well as the sanitary constraints applied in each of our visitors’ home countries. As organizers of the exhibition, our responsibility is to ensure safe and healthy conditions for each visitor, exhibitor, service provider and member of staff. The MYS will therefore be following the health measures instated by the principality’s government, as well as the “AllSecure” health security program, which is mandatory for all Informa Group events.”

Information by the Monaco Government for Visitors

The pandemic has nevertheless brought about societal upheaval and direct changes to the way we live – not to mention consume. For the yacht sales and charter markets, 2020 turned out to be a fabulous year, reflecting a hedonistic drive among society’s wealthiest tiers. Today more than ever, people want to enjoy life and get back to basics: true human relationships.

This is especially true in a world as demanding and exhilarating as superyachting. Establish a real trusting and loyal relationship with the expert in charge of your yacht project and be sure to meet them in person.

In the end, yachting is all about emotions and senses: you need to see the yacht, touch the noble materials from which it has been crafted, picture all the great times you could share on board, feel safe and at home with your family and more. Yachting is a positively human adventure in which the virtual world is intrinsically limited… An adventure that lies just past the gates of the Monaco Yacht Show.
