Tranquility Base is a well-maintained 2006 Ocean Alexander 58 that has been kept inside a custom-built boat house, keeping it free from constant exposure to the elements. This owner-operator motoryacht is listed with Alexander Marine USA for $1.229 million.

“The 58 pilothouse was designed by the iconic Ed Monk Jr., who has been producing eye-pleasing, classic, seakindly pilothouse yachts for Ocean Alexander for almost three decades. Indeed, there are now more than 1,000 Ocean Alexanders cruising around the world; the current lineup goes from 42 to 98 feet. The new 58 pilothouse is a traditional three-stateroom, two-head design with lots of teak and luxury appointments that appeal to buyers who are used to the best, whether in their homes or their yachts, and who also, as Johnny says, want the independence of running the boat themselves. (With three staterooms, of course, there’s room for a crew, but the boat is really designed for the owner-operators of the world),” Yachting previously reported.

The salon has high-gloss Sakura wood and teak and burl wood accents. Relax in the leather loveseat to port. Courtesy Alexander Marine

Powered by twin 700 hp Caterpillar C-12 diesel engines, Tranquility Base can hit 20 knots. But this yacht is not about speed, it’s about cruising in comfort. Dial it back to around 13 knots for a long-range cruise speed.

The 58’s salon has high-gloss Sakura wood with teak and Burl wood trim. Stepping inside the salon via a stainless-steel framed glass door from the cockpit, the custom exotic woodwork glows in the natural light, creating a warm, relaxing sensation. Recline in a leather loveseat to port or kick back on the sofa to starboard.

The galley is forward and to starboard, just abaft the helm on centerline. The U-shaped galley has plenty of counter space for food prep, and it’s equipped with an electric cooktop, oven and microwave. Stow your cold goods in the oversized refrigerator/freezer and other galley accessories in an array of cabinets. Forward and to port is a dinette, allowing guests to have their meals with a view while keeping the skipper company.

Tranquility Base has two helm stations. There is the climate-controlled lower helm and a flybridge helm shaded by the factory hardtop. • Raymarine E120 repeater
  • Raymarine autopilot
  • ZF electronic controls for transmission

Primary access to the flybridge is via a set of steps in the cockpit. Guests can relax in a U-shaped settee that is shaded by the hardtop or join the captain in one of two Stidd helm chairs. (There is aso internal stair access from the lower helm station.)

Guests can enjoy the open air and sweeping views from the flybridge, or on the foredeck for those seeking a little more quiet time. Dive in and take a dip off the swim platform, or launch the tender out to find your own private beach for lunch shoreside.

After a long day on the water, retire to one of three staterooms. The exotic-wood theme extends into the master stateroom with high- gloss Sakura and burl wood finishes. Wood pillars, large mirrors and a queen-size berth create a cozy, homelike feeling. Owners have an en suite head and more than enough stowage space with under-berth drawers, chest drawers and full-length hanging lockers. Guests will feel spoiled in the forepeak VIP with a queen-size berth, entertainment center and a full-length hanging locker. The third guest stateroom has side-by-side twin berths with full-length hanging lockers. A head with a full-size shower is located across from the third guest stateroom.

Alexander Marine stated that “This spacious three-stateroom, two-head vessel will cradle you in comfort and elegance…Year round climate-controlled comfort will allow you to extend your cruising grounds. All the while you will find that the quality shines through.”

Sea Ray’s L550 is a smartly-designed express cruiser that is owner-operator friendly, though it does have a crew cabin in case owners prefer to have a captain or mate for the weekend. Allied Marine has Flamingo, a 2018 Sea Ray L550, listed for $1.1 million.

“Whether cruising along the coastline or embarking on an extended journey, the L550 provides the right amenities,” says Allied Marine. “Every detail has been considered for you, your family, and your quest to enjoy a day on the water.”

Ocean Alexander 85E UnCorked

“From the dock, the 85E is almost a contradiction in terms: modern yet ageless. She has the requisite reversed transom, too often called euro, that embraces and protects a wonderfully large swim platform; she has the large windows in her topsides, and everything from the window pillars to the electronics arch is raked,” Yachting previously wrote. “Yet anyone who loves the lines of a vintage Rolls-Royce or a classic Trumpy motoryacht will be right at home here. Ten years down the line, the 85E will still turn heads.”

Chris Caswell couldn’t have been more right in his assessment, the Ocean Alexander 85E is still turning heads over 13 years later. The 85E was a platform that bridged the gap between traditional Ocean Alexander styling and a more European-style design, a trait you see magnified in the builder’s newest models. MarineMax currently has UnCorked, a 2011 Ocean Alexander 85E, listed with a $2.699 million asking price.

Ocean Alexander 85E UnCorked
Guests can find sun pads on the foredeck and the flybridge. If it’s time for cocktails there’s a two-stool bar on the aft deck or a five-stool bar on the flybridge. Courtesy MarineMax

UnCorked is a 2011 Ocean Alexander 85E that has been maintained with pride. She is a marvel in yachting engineering and a beauty on the water,” says MarineMax.

Stepping into the salon guests will appreciate the natural light flooding the space from the nearly waist-to-ceiling windows running the length of the room. Lounge seating is aft with an L-shaped sofa to starboard and two barrel lounge chairs to port. A formal dining space sits amidships, forward of the lounge area, with a six-chair dining table.

Past the forward bulkhead, the pilothouse has the lower helm station forward to port while the rest of the area is dedicated to the country galley. Galley appliances and amenities include:

  • Custom JennAir French door refrigerator and freezer
  • Whirlpool garbage disposal
  • Wood flooring
  • 30-inch electric cooktop
  • Gaggenau microwave/convection oven
  • JennAir electric oven
  • Two Fisher and Paykel dishwashers
  • Granite countertops
  • Sink with pull out faucet
  • Filtered water spigot
  • Dinette table
  • Two wooden bar stools
Ocean Alexander 85E UnCorked

Exterior entertainment spaces onboard UnCorked are abundant and varied. If guests are looking to enjoy alfresco dining outside the cockpit is a go-to spot with transom seating and a fixed dining table. If it’s sun they’re after, the 85E has sun pads on the foredeck and the after section of the flybridge. Speaking of the flybridge, there’s shaded lounge seating forward under the hardtop—which has a sunroof—or an open section aft that can house loose lounge chairs.

After a fun day on the water, owners and their guests can head belowdecks where all four staterooms await. Amidships, the full-beam master stateroom has a king berth with under berth stowage, sofa seating to port, nightstands, a vanity with a seat to starboard, two full-size cedar-lined closets, a 32-inch flat-screen TV and a his-and-hers en suite head. The forepeak VIP has a queen berth with under berth stowage, a cedar-lined hanging locker, a 22-inch flat-screen TV and an en suite head. The port VIP stateroom has two twin berths and a flat-screen TV while the final starboard stateroom has two twin berths that can convert to a king with a mattress insert.

UnCorked has the same powerplant Yachting’s test 85E had—twin 1,600 hp MTU 10V 2000 diesels—which push UnCorked to an 18-knot top hop and a 15-knot cruise speed. Slowing to 10 knots decreases full consumption to two gallons per mile, giving the 85E a nearly 1,000-nautical-mile range.

Some other notable features on board UnCorked include:

  • Stabilizers
  • Bow and stern thrusters
  • 21-inch Furuno NEMA 2000 display screen
  • Furuno MFD blackbox processors
  • Furuno 6kw 6-foot open array dual ranging radar

Newport Yacht Builders is a full-service yacht design, new build, and yacht refit enterprise based in Newport, Rhode Island. The Newport-based builder provides a hands-on approach so the client has a single point of contact.

Among the builder’s portfolio is a 2021 Downeast 54-foot Custom Lobster yacht called Pretti Rose, which is currently listed with Northrop & Johnson and up for auction with Boathouse Auctions. The custom motoryacht has a current market rate of $1.995 million and bidding opened on September 5th at $900,000. It’s worth noting the reserve is undisclosed.

“Starting with a proven commercial hull design from one of Maine’s premier lobster boat builders, our client asked Newport Yacht Builders to develop a lobster yacht that was tailored to the needs of his growing family,” Newport Yacht Builders says. “The Mussel Ridge 54-foot hull and deck were built at Hutchinson Composite in Cushing, Maine. Simultaneously, we built the yacht-finish interior in Newport. What makes this production-design approach to custom boat building possible is our specialized skills and use of 3D laser-scan and CNC technology.”

Dancefloor-sized might be an understanding when talking about Pretti Rose’s cockpit, which accounts for a large portion of the main deck space. The cockpit is a mostly blank slate for future owners, however, it does have an adjustable lounge pad forward on the centerline.

“In true lobster yacht fashion the first thing noticed upon visual inspection is the striking lines of this solid work platform. Thoughtful tradition and mass combined in perfect harmony,” says Northrop & Johnson.

Stepping inside the isinglass, the pilothouse features a Herreshoff-style interior which combines traditional woodwork with modern design elements to create a timeless ambiance. Looking for a stout, finely finished, high-performing Downeast-style yacht with a thoroughly modern build? Falcon, a 2022 Palm Beach PB70, has just entered the market with Grand Banks at $4.999 million.

“Her lines are much sleeker than those of most other boats in her class, many of which tend to skew more classical and, frankly, more boxy,” Yachting previously reported. “This boat is sexy, with a raked windshield and gently curving sheer line that reaches aft toward a generous tumblehome.”

Construction is vacuum-infused E-glass with carbon fiber for structural areas. The deck and superstructure are built with infused carbon fiber for strength without added weight. Coring is Airex and Corecell foam.

Boarding Falcon via the teak swim platform, the cockpit is accessed through a transom door to starboard. The first things I noticed were the teak sole, fixed Bimini and al fresco space to entertain family and friends. Guests can relax on an L-shaped settee with a custom hi-low teak table or the aft-facing L-shaped settee with table to starboard. Grill a few burgers for lunch on the Kenyon electric BBQ before grabbing a few water toys out of the garage. Falcon’s tender garage is currently used for stowage with the tender stowed on the hardtop. Relax on the portside sofa with a hi-low teak table that converts to an additional berth, settee with table to starboard, barrel chair and custom ottoman with flip fabric/teak lid. Solid teak cabinetry and lockers provide stowage space for salon accessories. Catch a game on the retractable flat- screen TV or nose into a book using the custom reading lights.

Forward, and open to the salon, is Falcon’s helm station. Quantum, a 2022 70-foot Pershing 7X, is sleek with snazzy lines that make this luxurious performance yacht look in motion even while sitting still. The three-stateroom yacht has a nearly 50-knot top hop and is on the market with Allied Marine for $3.99 million.

“Pershings are built for drivers. These machines can be handled like boats half their size. The 7X’s powertrain consists of twin 1,800 hp MAN V-12 diesels whisking Top System T85 surface drives. On board, there’s something of a runaway-train feeling, with the nearly 70-foot yacht seeming as if it just doesn’t want to stop accelerating. The ride is exhilarating. The 7X is fast, even for a Pershing,” Yachting previously reported.

Board Quantum via a telescopic hydraulic passerelle. The yacht’s has 340 square feet of exterior deck space, 75 square feet of swim platform and 204 square feet of cockpit. The cockpit, swim platform, side decks and foredeck are all clad in teak. Relax on an L-shaped dinette with a teak table and two chairs, which is shaded by the hardtop, or improve that tan on a sofa and sun pad aft that can be shaded with a Bimini top. Fiberglass cabinets to port and starboard provide plenty of stowage, along with a locker under the sofa. Grill lunch on the cockpit grill before heading down to the electro-hydraulic swim platform for a swim. The swim platform has room for a few guests to lay out in the sun. Looking for a little privacy? Walk up to the foredeck, which is set up with sun pads and a chaise-style lounge that easily accommodates four to six guests.

Quantum’s salon is accessed through a hideaway aluminum-and-crystal door from the cockpit. Slide open the door and retract the window and door to create an open-air environment from the helm to cockpit. The first thing I noticed were the two sizable sunroofs, side windows and windscreen that allows natural light to illuminate the salon and helm. Guests can relax on the portside aft L-shaped fabric sofa with a foldable wooden, high-low table and two leather folding chairs. An entertainment center is to starboard.

Stairs between the helm station and chaise-style lounge lead to the lower deck where the galley and staterooms are located. The galley has Corian countertops, providing plenty of space for meal prep. It’s also equipped with a four-burner ceramic glass cooktop, oven, stainless-steel sink and dishwasher. Other galley amenities include:

The Absolute Yachts 58 Fly is an entertainment platform. A galley-aft layout ensures that serving guests in the salon and the cockpit is seamless. There are two alfresco dining areas: a teak dining table with a transom bench seat in the cockpit, and a U-shaped dining table on the flybridge. Accommodations belowdecks include three en suite staterooms.

Twin 600 hp Volvo Penta IPS800s power the 58 Fly, giving it a 30-knot top hop and a 22-knot cruise speed. As of June 2024, there were eight Absolute 58 Flys available, ranging from $1 million to $1.62 million.

From the Archive

“The ride was solid, particularly as I carved her through the steep, sloshing wake of the hard-over turns. Her fiberglass hull is reinforced with a multidimensional grid that helps maintain rigidity. The wooden soles, ceilings and bulkheads are buttressed with fiberglass supports, aiding with structural integrity and sound attenuation. She was, as the builder promises, smooth, solid and quiet.”

“The Sirena Yachts 68 is an immensely practical semi-displacement cruiser,” Yachting previously wrote. “The hull is based on the Sirena 64, which debuted in 2017, and is an evolution that goes far beyond the extra few feet of length that have been added toward the stern.”

Allied Marine currently has a 2023 Sirena 68 called My Lady Y listed for just shy of $3 million. The Florida-based flybridge motoryacht features an optional four-stateroom layout and comfortable amenities inside and out.

Sirena 68
Whether you’re trying to get more sun on the flybridge or less sun on the foredeck, My Lady Y has the accommodations to fit. Note the sun shade and the sunroof. Courtesy Allied Marine

“The My Lady Y stands as the epitome of upgraded elegance in the market,” Allied Marine says. “Distinguished by its sleek design and unique ax bow shape, it outshines other boats in the 60- to 70-foot range.”

The foredeck offers two different lounge areas, the U-shaped settee and fixed table aft and the sun pad forward. If the sun is too harsh, there is a sun shade that can cover the entire space.

The cockpit is fully covered by the flybridge overhang so owners and their guests can enjoy a shaded alfresco dining experience at the fixed table and transom bench seat aft. Pull up a few chairs to fit as many as eight.

Sirena 68
My Lady Y features the aft dining layout, which sits directly across from the aft galley. Courtesy Allied Marine

The flybridge has two distinct sections, the forward portion that is covered by the hardtop and the aft, open-air section that has a two-stool bar as the divider amidships. Seating on the flybridge includes two U-shaped settees, one forward to port and one abaft the upper helm to starboard.

Sirena offers two different interior arrangements for the 68, with the variation being if the interior dining is forward to port, abaft the lower helm station, or to starboard and adjacent to the galley aft. My Lady Y has the aft dining configuration, making it a very entertainment-friendly motoryacht.

After a fun day on the water, owners and their guests can head belowdecks to enjoy one of four staterooms. Amidships, the full-beam master stateroom has a centerline berth, a desk space to port that sits beneath a hullside window that stretches nearly the length of the room, walk-in closet stowage and an en suite head. The forepeak VIP has a centerline berth, a desk area that sits beneath the built-in flat-screen TV and an en suite head. The optional starboard guest cabin has the bunk berth layout while the port guest cabin has side-by-side convertible single berths.

Sirena 68

“The goal of the Sirena 68 hull design was to offer efficiency at speeds ranging from long-range cruising to planning,” Sirena Yachts says. “A slippery hull with minimal appendage drag gave the range numbers we were looking for, while optional power choices increase the top end.”

Twin low-hour (289) 1,000 hp Volvo D-13 diesels give My Lady Y a 26-knot top hop and a fast cruise of 16 knots. Cruising at 16 knots will give the 68-footer a range of 400 nautical miles. Slowing to 8.5 knots increases the maximum range to 1,150 nm.

Some other notable features on board My Lady Y include:

  • Seakeeper gyrstabilizer
  • Humphrey stabilizers
  • Bow and stern thrusters
  • Garmin Diamond package
  • Washer and dryer combo

Where is My Lady Y located? The yacht is currently lying in Aventura, Florida.
